Wink's Words
Please begin to collect samples of quality student work and placing them in your child's portfolios. Portfolios must be maintained on every child. The purpose of the portfolio is for us to collect samples of high quality student work. To add power to the portfolio, the teacher team should decide which tasks they would like to collect. The portfolio serves 3 purposes. First, it is critical to the intervention process to see samples of student work. Second, comparing student work as a grade level helps teachers align their understanding of the TEKS and expectations for student work. Third, the portfolio is a powerful resource to use when conferencing with parents.
Set your calendars for Monday, October 28 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
We will be having a parent night to showcase our students and their learning in art, music, science and social studies. All staff will need to be on hand to make this event a huge success. We do not have a name for the event, so we are asking you to come up with a great name to make this event a success. There is a prize for the most unique name for the event. Of course, we hope to incorporate candy into the event since Halloween is around the corner.

The Heart of our Work
Fourth grade Math/science teachers are taking charge of writing. The science or social studies prompt is up and ready for students to read as they walk in the classroom in the morning. After students read, they are encouraged to apply what they have read to their own lives and write in a journal.
(Upper Left) Great job to Kindergarten. On every door, there is a password that the students must know in order to enter the room. What a great way to reinforce sight words.
(Upper Right) In art, the 3rd and 4th graders are learning about color as they make their fall leaves and at the bottom, they write a description of their art work. Thank you to Grail Currey and Summer High for making writing a priority every day.

Mrs. Barnes thinks.......
First Grade should celebrate what an awesome team they are becoming. Each member is willing to be open and honest about themselves, and they never hesitate to ask questions. I love being a part of their team.
Ms. White and Mrs. Perry have become the "Dynamic Duo". They have a full class and are doing a great job. Mrs. Perry is learning every day and making her job look so easy. Great job ladies!!
Mrs. Treadway
Russell Cunningham and Tamica Godfrey have done a tremendous job in scheduling almost 100 3rd & 4th grade students for pull-out support in the Power Lab.
Jasmine Cunningham and Kathy Ferrell stepped out of their comfort zone this week to present running record training for teachers. Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise with others.
Mrs. Traylor
Rachel Jackson & Nicole Scott have been caught! Caught making good use of instructional time with their kids practicing math skills in the hall while they wait in line for the bathroom.
Terri Dickson has worked with students across many grade levels as well as behind the scenes to make sure that students' needs are being met.
