The Heart of our Work

Celebration accelerates Learning

It has been fun walking into several classes this week.  My favorite part of the week has been having students run up to me to show me their writing. Now I'm not promoting that students should disrupt class to show me the writing, but I do think that it is a pretty awesome thing for them to be very excited to show me their learning.

The things that get celebrated get accelerated. What learning targets are being celebrated in your class, and what does celebration look like, sound like and feel like in your classroom?  Please share your ideas in the comment section below. Obviously, everyone that throws in an idea has a special treat coming their way.

What celebration strategies do you use to get to the heart of student learning?

Celebrate our Growth
Kathy Ferrell says...
I really enjoy the conversations that I am having with Miranda Dodson and Kristen Foley about guided reading.  They are studying and reflecting on their work and always coming by to get suggestions of how to do better at the table.

Mrs. Treadway says...
The Kindergarten team is rockin' this week while they celebrate the 50th day of school! Teachers and students alike dressed up in 50's attire in honor of the 50th day of school and the halfway mark to 100!!! Thank you ladies for engaging our students in fun and creative ways.

Samantha Griffin has an extremely challenging class this year. I appreciate the time and effort she puts into researching different ways to help her most needy students and finding the strength to come and give it her all every day.

Mrs. Barnes says.....
I am so happy with they way First Grade teachers roll with the flow.  There have been a few changes made and the team steps up their game to make it happen.  They are here for the kids!!!  Love that.

Mrs. Branch and Miss Barton are doing an amazing job with a very challenging student. These two research strategies and always work together to do what is best for this kiddo.  Thanks for loving her!!

Mrs. Traylor says...

The Third & Fourth grade teams took a risk this week collaborating on student writing stages and looking at student samples. It is a learning experience, but they are open to it, and gained lots of knowledge just from the first time.

Mrs. Bowman & Mrs. Collie are sharing their kids with 1st grade. Some fourth grade students will be helping the younger students with their work every week. Many times students use their own language to explain complicated ideas better than adults. Thank you Mrs. Bowman and Mrs. Collie for volunteering.
