Wink's Words
January is School Board Appreciation Month. I would like to personally thank Jasmine Cunningham for leading the G/T kids in creating the Heart Work Awards. Because of her leadership with the G/T students, we are recognizing students for getting to the heart of their work.
This month, the G/T students created Heart Work Awards for the GISD school board members and made this video for them. I hope you will check it out and thank Jasmine and the kids for their hard work to change our culture.

The Heart of our Work
Closing the gap requires personalized instruction. The way that we ensure that personalization occurs is what we do at the small group table everyday and the tasks that we put in front our kids during independent time. Please make sure that kids are working on their greatest area of need at the small group table and practicing on skills that need reinforcement during independent time. The biggest opportunity for closing gaps is expecting kids to read independently during independent time. This will help kids close their own gaps.
Celebrate our Growth
Samantha Griffin did an awesome job creating the Kinder slideshow for Parent Night. Her arrangement of student pictures and work samples was a great way to showcase our students hard work and gave parents an insight into their child's world at school. Thank you, Samantha!!!
Chelsie Bradley has taken a resource and simplified it to make it more teacher friendly. Your initiative is going to help make our job easier and have a positive impact on our students. Thanks for the great work and sharing your ideas with others.
Mrs. Traylor says…
Being the only self contained teacher on the grade level is no easy task. Jacqueline Hooton took what she learned in math teaming, and applied it towards making individualized plans for her students in reading, and then shared the information with her ELA team. Way to go!
I know that Robyn Fort has been recognized before, but I have to mention her again, because she needs constant reminders how much she's appreciated for her patience with kids, as well as her flexibility. Kids respect her because they know that she truly cares about them.
Thank you to Olivia Secord for going above and beyond to make sure 3rd 6 weeks grades were submitted, verified and printed on report cards to be handed out. In addition, she had everything ready for the CHAMPs assembly ahead of time.
